Artist Statement
I have been a practicing and exhibiting artist for about fifteen years and have been exhibiting through different galleries around the Bay Area. During this time I have been fortunate to have been able to have my work shown, in different group exhibitions: the de Young Museum (Day of the Dead Exhibition), Mission Cultural Center, 111 Minna, SOMARTS, and Galeria de la Raza. I have also been an Artist in Residence for the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. I am a graduate from C.C.A. (2002, B.F.A., Individualized Degree, Painting/Sculpture). The work examines cultural roots, identity, social/political issues, and place. Environment, mood, color, imagery, both physical and psychological, are facets that construct the visual language I employ. The iconography, motifs, and symbols that are used represent the duality of both the Central and North American cultures that have influenced and shaped my worldview.
